Castle Sidcup is an independent, community-driven cinema on Sidcup High Street located in the Storyteller building, and run by the same small team behind The Castle Cinema in Hackney.
We’re not a chain - we’re a small group of people who believe a cinema should sit at the heart of its community. From the films we choose to the drinks we pour, everything is hand-picked to create a space that feels warm, welcoming and truly local.
Our story began with Castle Hackney, a crowdfunded cinema in a restored 1913 picture palace. After almost a decade there, we’re incredibly excited to bring that same spirit to Sidcup.
Castle Sidcup is run by a small, dedicated team:

And hats off to Corinne - General Manager, Castle Hackney - who designed our Sidcup bar menu, trained the team and continues to sprinkle her Hackney magic all over Castle Sidcup.
Alongside our Duty Managers and Front of House crew, they keep the cinema running smoothly every day - welcoming guests, serving at the bar, and making sure every screening feels special.
We believe cinema has the power to transform, inspire and connect people - and that everyone should have the chance to experience it.
That’s why we focus on a warm, personal welcome,
a carefully curated programme,
a well-stocked vegan-friendly bar,
and a space that feels like part of the neighbourhood.
Whether it’s a big new release, a brilliant independent film or a family outing, our aim is always the same: to create exceptional shared experiences.
We’re opening Castle Sidcup with a soft launch - our dress rehearsal. The doors are open, the popcorn is popping, and we’re still fine-tuning the space, the tech and the details.
During this phase, you might notice the odd adjustment while we get everything just right. We’d love to hear what you think - we want to build this cinema with you, not just for you.
Soft launch opening hours (December):
Saturdays: 9:30am - 9pm
Every other day: 1pm - 9pm
Planned closure days: 18th & 25th December
Hours may vary on Christmas Eve, Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
From 2nd January:
Open every day: 9:30am - 11pm

Our films are selected by a small, experienced team who have been curating The Castle’s programme for almost a decade.
We show:
the best new releases,
brilliant independent films,
and family favourites.
Coming soon:
cult classics,
film clubs and special events,
and a range of accessible and community-focused screenings including baby screenings, relaxed screenings and more.
As we grow in Sidcup, these events will expand even further.
Castle Sidcup has three beautiful, modern screens.
Screens 1 and 2 both have 44 seats.
Screen 3 is our largest with 70 seats.
All three spaces are designed to feel comfortable and welcoming, with great sound and a clear view from every seat.
Castle Sidcup is built around people. We’ve set six community goals that guide how we grow and how we serve our audiences.
We are working to improve access for disabled guests,
develop underserved audiences,
support and enhance education locally,
nurture a diverse team,
maintain an inclusive and thought-provoking programme for all,
and champion local suppliers and vegan options as part of our fight against the climate crisis.
Supporter tickets, donations and every drink at the bar all help us work towards these goals and keep independent cinema thriving in Sidcup.
Our memberships are designed to give you more films for less, while supporting everything we do - from community screenings to our six community goals.
All our members get:
free tickets (the number varies by tier),
up to 50% off all other tickets,
10% off at the bar and café,
no booking fees,
and discounts on private hires.

Please note, Castle Sidcup is completely unrelated to the previous cinema operator.
We have not purchased the previous company – we are a totally new business renting the space from Bexley Council.
We cannot access any data from the previous operator.
We understand that some customers had memberships and outstanding perks at the previous cinema.
Whilst we may not be able to honour all previous benefits, as a gesture of goodwill we may be able to recognise your support of independent cinema through a Castle Sidcup membership.
