From award-winning writer-director Mona Fastvold (The Brutalist) comes an epic historical musical drama film, based on the extraordinary events of Ann Lee, one of the most important religious figures in pre-Revolutionary America.
Ann Lee (Amanda Seyfried), is the founding leader of the Shaker Movement, proclaimed as the female Christ by her followers. Depicting her establishment of a utopian society and the Shakers' worship, through song and dance in the 18th century.
The Testament of Ann Lee captures the ecstasy and agony of her quest for a more equitable and utopian society.
Amanda Seyfried leads a stellar cast, with Christopher Abbott, Tim Blake Nelson, Viola Prettejohn, and Lewis Pullman as Lee’s devoted brother. The film features more than a dozen traditional Shaker hymns reimagined as rapturous movements with choreography by Celia Rowlson-Hall, and original songs & score by Daniel Blumberg.
